About the Pet Cancer Foundation

The Pet Cancer Foundation’s vision is to increase the life expectancy and improve the quality of life of pets diagnosed with cancer. Estimates suggest that 12M dogs and cats are developing cancer every year, roughly 6x the number of humans getting cancer yearly within North America.

We need to do more for our furry friends, and we're building a large team of distributed, animal-loving passionate volunteers to help them and their families. Our team requires skilled and talented writers to create relevant and engaging content that increases awareness, informs and educates our online communities about pet cancer; that's where and how you can help us.

About the Position

The volunteer position of Content Writer requires skilled and talented writers, experienced at researching complex topics, and capable of drafting original copy that services both constituents, PCF, and our community members. This position creates content that educates, informs and improves awareness on the subject of pet cancer, going above and beyond a "normal" social media post.

Comprised of our audiences on social networking platforms, our online communities are connecting people from all walks of life for their love of animals and the joy they bring to our lives. As an organization focused on the disease of cancer, we have our work cut out for us. The content we post must be appropriate to what we do while compelling enough to hold interest and convince those who see them to share our posts with their friends, family, and followers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Research and review topics as assigned
• Draft articles and posts that properly contextualize any information conveyed in the approved form and voice of the organization
• Ensure all information references & citations used are organized, recorded & validated
• Ensures proper grammar, punctuation, and syntax are utilized
• Submit work to editors for feedback and approval according to the schedules provided
• Adheres to deadlines, communicating in advance when not able to fulfill assignments.

About You

You are energetic, organized, and driven, with experience writing meaningful prose. You have an endless desire to produce accurate, relevant, and engaging content, understanding that it must be tailored to your audience and aligned to the organization's purpose. You have:

• Bachelor's degree (journalism or communications preferred)
• 2-3 years relevant experience writing
• Ability to manage and work under tight deadlines
• Exceptional writing skills, above-average grammar, and a keen eye for detail
• Previous professional experience in writing or related field required

• Several positions are available on each of our community teams; varying factors will determine placement
• This position is virtual and can be completed from anywhere in Canada or the United States.
• This is a volunteer position and the time commitment is approximately 4-6 hours per week
• Writing assignments are provided bi-weekly, followed by two weeks for completion of drafts.
