The Karns City Area School District is seeking applications for an anticipated full-time Computer Science teaching position (grades 7-12).

It is anticipated that the position will be available in December 2022 or January 2023.

The chosen candidate will be expected to teach the following courses:

• Grade 7 Programming
• Grade 8 Programming
• Advanced Placement Computer Science A
• Advanced Placement Computer Science
• Computer Programming
• Robotics

Interested applicants should have one or more of the following certificates:

• Science 7-12 Certificates
• Mathematics 7-12 Certificates
• Business Computer Information Technology PK-12
• Technology Education PK-12

Per the PA Department of Education, anyone employed to teach computer science in grades 7-12 for the first time in a Pennsylvania school district after December 31, 2022 or who holds one of the certificates listed above and accepts employment to teach computer science in grades 7-12 in a new Pennsylvania school district after December 31, 2022 must possess a Grades 7-12 Computer Science Certificate.

The Grades 7-12 Computer Science Certificate can be earned by successfully passing the Computer Science Praxis Exam.

It is preferred that the chosen candidate already possess the Grades 7-12 Computer Science Certificate prior to their hiring; however, if the candidate does not, as long as they have one of the above-referenced certificates, they will be expected to take and pass the Grades 7-12 Computer Science Praxis Exam.

Teacher – Classroom

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR Building Principal

GENERAL DUTIES
The Teacher promotes and develops successful learning for students, performs instructional and related duties in accordance with District Policies and terms of the teacher contract. The Teacher also maintains a cooperative attitude with staff, parents, and students.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
All required clearances as per current law
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
Holds an appropriate license from the Pennsylvania Department of Education
Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English, Spanish, or other languages related to the job
Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or district patrons
Ability to work harmoniously with others

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide a variety of classroom techniques and methods,
Utilize current and relevant subject matter.
Develop and maintain an environment conducive to effective student learning
Prepare effectively for class
Develop and communicate appropriate grading standards to students
Develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships
Provide documentation of students’ progress
Build motivation and interest in learning
Maintain an ongoing personal program of professional growth and development
Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: From $46,000.00 per year
