Community Relations Manager
Job description
This position will function as the primary Community Relations Manager for the MDOT SHA District 3 Office located in Greenbelt, MD. The Community Relations Manager oversees communications with internal and external customers regarding projects, programs, operations, and other issues, while also consulting the District office on complex projects in terms of supporting the implementation of public information campaigns.
To do this the incumbent will:
- Promote the District’s programs, projects, and innovative efforts;
- Coordinate public meetings with industry partners for MDOT SHA offices;
- Compile, research, and create fact sheets, speeches, news releases, newsletters, and presentations;
- Research media inquiries regarding agency projects and programs (statewide);
- Support leadership staff at events and meetings;
- Act as public information coordinator for in-person or virtual meetings – coordinate internally and externally regarding significant events;
- Provide communication assistance during incident management and emergencies of significance;
- Develop strategic plans and collaborate on marketing initiatives for projects requiring stakeholder outreach;
- Utilize innovative techniques to reach customers; strategize ways to increase reach and promote MDOT SHA’s messages;
- Build and maintain inter / intra-agency relationships; and
- Partner and work in coordination with the Office of Communications (OC) to provide timely and accurate information to MDOT SHA’s stakeholders.
Requirements
- At least five years of work experience in public relations or a related field.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Great interpersonal skills and ability to lead and work well as part of a team.
- Ability to work well under pressure and manage sensitive or controversial subjects with tact, kindness, and professionalism.
- Experience in copywriting and editing.
- Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in Communications, Public Relations, English, Journalism, or Liberal Arts field.
- Employee will be considered an essential employee.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- This position requires the possession of a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $63,556.00 - $98,523.00 per year
