Summary:
The Underwriter is responsible for underwriting, profitability, growth and retention of new and renewal business that is consistent with underwriting strategies for assigned program. The underwriter is accountable for managing a high volume environment. In the role, may act as a technical referral resource for less experienced Associate Underwriters and Underwriting Assistants. The underwriter uses individual judgment and discretion to operate within authority levels as delegated by the Vice President of Underwriting and CEO of MEC.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Ensure underwriting quality and profitability through application of the appropriate level of underwriting analysis based upon risk complexity to accept, decline, and quote these accounts. Decides which of several underwriting programs to place the account dependent upon class of business, sales, venue, number of vehicles, loss history and other criteria.
- · Calculates standard rates and premium charges by using approved formulas and rating metrics.
- · Applies Pricing Credits / Debits based upon individual underwriting analysis and in accordance with individual Letter of Authority.
- · Completes/Maintains file documentation and can clearly explain underwriting contemplation and decisions.
- · Develops or modifies Account Specific Endorsement wording when standard policy language is not appropriate.
- · Function as MEC point of sale for proposal delivery and negotiation without seeking approval with respects to coverage and credits.
- · Negotiates terms & conditions and pricing of accounts with wholesalers
- · Services existing accounts with timely implementation of policy endorsements and proper hand-over for implementation.
- · Evaluates renewal accounts to ensure underwriting quality and acceptability for upcoming term.
- · Establishes and manages effective relationships with Brokers to develop new business.
- · Prepares Accounts for External Carrier Audits.
- · Travel may be required.
- · 3-5 Years prior underwriting experience
