MobilizeGreen seeks conservation-minded Climate Adaptation Fellows to help support the federal government’s Roadmap for Nature-based Solutions to fight climate change, strengthen nature and communities, and support local economies. Through its partnership with the US Fish & Wildlife Service (“FWS”), MobilizeGreen is implementing the FWS’ Maintenance and Infrastructure Fellowship program for diverse participants. The Climate Adaptation Fellowships typically are for 52 weeks and are located on refuges or a regional office in 3 states.


As a Fellow, you will gain hands-on experience in understanding nature's processes and functions to tackle societal challenges like climate change, biodiversity declines, disasters, and water security by building resiliency for ecological and human communities. Through mentorship and training, Fellows will gain the opportunity to launch their career with a non-competitive or through other hiring authorities once they successfully complete their fellowship.

Project Types


  • Partnering: evaluates, prioritizes, and coordinates cross programmatically and with partners nature-based restoration and conservation opportunities to facilitate NBS delivery.
  • Development: facilitate the development of partnership frameworks for NBS implementation. Support development of the Department of Interior NBS Roadmap.
  • Content Curator: develops content (e.g. NBS case studies) and collaborate with Conservation and Adaptation Strategy Toolbox (CCAST) partners to establish a NBS platform for information sharing. Curates climate adaptation, resiliency, and mitigation content to build out a Service intranet NBS site that coalesces and vets resources for Service staff NBS applications (e.g., NBS toolkit.)
  • Evaluation: evaluates and actively addresses inequity in planning projects and disseminating NBS information to assure the disproportionate impacts of climate related hazards to underserved communities can be recognized and addressed through our work.
  • Vulnerability Assessment: builds on information and resources gathered by previous fellow to complete a climate change vulnerability analysis which will be used to inform refuge boundary expansion planning efforts as well as determine impacts to/recommendations for infrastructure, habitats and wildlife.
  • Reporting: develops a final report based on findings.


Eligibility

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree preferred but not required. Degree requirements for individual positions may apply.
  • You are at least 17 years old and not older than 30 years old (veterans may apply up to age 35).
  • You must be an early-career professional with a strong interest in the FWS fellowship program.
  • You must be available to serve for 6-12 months in a selected location.
  • Ability to interpret oral and occasionally written instructions and specifications and follow safety practices.
  • You are a citizen or lawful permanent resident.
