Job Description Summary

This is a recruitment for a short-term/temporary position. This recruitment will be open until the position is filled. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

This is a short-term/temporary position in the Disability Support Programs & Services Department (DSPS), working approximately 1-2 days/week throughout the next year. This position will be the first point of contact for the department and works closely with student employees and students.


DEFINITION
Under general supervision, perform a variety of clerical work involving specific routines and broadly defined policies and procedures; and perform other related duties as required.

Essential Functions & Qualifications

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Meet and work with the public, students, and college staff in a variety of situations which require tact, discretion, and courtesy;
  • Compile information from various sources and type on a variety of forms;
  • Review documents for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to established procedures;
  • Open and classify incoming mail and other information;
  • Perform a wide variety of clerical and typing work;
  • Operate standard office equipment, including word processor, computer terminals, micro-processors, calculators, and microfilm if required;
  • Type and operate word processing keyboard to generate letters, memorandas, reports, requisitions, and other materials;
  • Establish and maintain hard copy and electronic data processing records;
  • Maintain clerical records and to compile basic reports;
  • Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and of staff and students with physical and learning disabilities;
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and others contacted in the performance of duties;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
  • Equivalent to graduation from the twelfth grade.

Experience:
  • Experience is not required for entry into a Clerical Assistant position.

Knowledge of:
  • Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment;
  • Computer terminals and PC operations;
  • College organization, policies, rules, and programs preferred.
  • See for the purpose of reading laws and codes, rules and policies, and other printed matter;
  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels;
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
  • Speak so that others will be able to understand a normal in-person and telephone conversation;
  • Work at a desk, conference table, or in meetings of various configurations;
  • Stand for extended periods of time;
