Position Title: Christmas Assistant
Reports to: Corps Officers
Schedule: Temporary Full Time

Position Summary
The Christmas Assistant will assist in all areas of the Christmas Campaign including Community Events, Giving Tree, holiday assistance, and Kettles. This position is instrumental in increasing community awareness, increasing donations to impact families in need during the holidays, and raising funds for multiple transformational year-round programs. This position will interface with donors, community groups. temporary workers, and volunteers.
Essential Duties: assist with
- Recruit volunteers from all available avenues including high schools, churches, service clubs, colleges, corporations, corps advisory board members and their families, youth organization, senior organizations, volunteer groups, choirs, bands, and individuals.
- Manage TSA online volunteer recruitment.
- Coordinate the completion of temporary hire and volunteer applications ensuring all forms are completed correctly, submitted to DHQ, and filed.
- Schedule temporary kettle workers and volunteers with an emphasis on maximizing volunteers and filling all available giving tree times and higher income kettle sites.
- Maintain all communication channels including Christmas phone, voicemail, social media, and walk ins.
- Coordinate recruitment of countertop kettle sites, placement, and managing.
- Ensure kettle supplies are stocked daily for drivers.
- Greet and check on volunteers and temporary hires ensuring they have all necessary items, are set up correctly, and answer any questions.
- Input data including kettles schedules and income, seasonal assistant applicants, and volunteers.
- Help organize and run our many community events during the holiday season.
- Picking up and sorting toys/gifts from the Giving Tree.
- Organizing and communicating with Adopt a Family Sponsors for drop off and pick up times.
- Filling in at kettles and giving tree when needed
Qualifications:
Technical skills:
- Proficiency in Windows 7 and higher as implemented
- Ability to read and understand written documents and contracts
- Must possess good written and oral communication skills and be able to draft and edit professional level communication.
- Must be proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft Office (including word, excel, PowerPoint, publisher, and outlook email.)

- Ability to independently plan and implement daily activities
- Ability to maintain professionalism and defuse hostile persons and situations
- Ability to work well in team setting with other professionals
- Awareness of current social services issues and responses
- Ability to negotiate within and without The Salvation Army
- Ability to think creatively and strategically.
- Ability to articulate, defend and give leadership in the context of The Salvation Army’s values and mission
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision and be prepared to encounter a variety of assignments and timelines.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive materials and information. Must have excellent organizational skills including multi-tasking and time management.
- Must demonstrate good judgement and act in a professional manner.
- Some understanding of the purpose and goals of The Salvation Army
- Reliable and dependable, ability to work as part of a team.
Physical:
- Must be at least 21 years of old and have a valid driver license.
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.
- Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, cabinet drawers, heavy kettles, and to reach overhead.
- Ability to lift up to 25lbs.
