Job Description:

He/She has primary responsibility for supervising and caring for children in compliance with regulations established by the New York State Department of Social Services. In addition, he/she supports other staff in the implementation of the Child Care Program.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Learning Environment

  • To assist in the instructional program
  • To assist in the care of the children. Students may be responsible for small groups of children alone, when numbers are low.
  • To assist in the care of the children in their personal and self-care needs
  • To assist in the supervision of children in all activities, inside and out
  • To assist in maintaining a neat, clean, and orderly classroom
  • To assist in the preparation and care of materials
  • To give input to planning classroom activities and Center events
  • To assist in maintaining order and discipline in the classroom
  • To know every child as an individual

Parent and Staff Communication

  • To know every child's parent(s) by name and to communicate positively with them
  • To work cooperatively with Center Staff and Administration

Professionalism

  • To follow daily schedules and routines
  • To attend and participate in training sessions and staff meetings
  • To be supportive of the Center and Center Administration
  • To seek professional growth and development
  • To be on time
  • To maintain good attendance


Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma, or equivalent
  • Candidate must be at least eighteen years of age
  • Patience and a strong sense of responsibility
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
  • Completed job application form
  • A minimum of 3 references (personal and professional)
  • Must be able to pass a physical exam NYS Central Registry clearance, NYS Justice Department SEL and criminal conviction check
  • Must have COVID-19 vaccination

Preferred Qualification:

  • A minimum of one year of experience in working with young children
