Job description
Under the supervision of the Center Director and Center Coordinator, work cooperatively with other supervisory staff to coordinate child care program for children and parents in one classroom for children two months to five years old. Maintain program quality, adhering to Title 22 State licensing regulations, Title 5 Exemplary Program Standards and NAEYC accreditation standards. Maintain a healthy indoor and outdoor environment. Act quickly and appropriately in hazardous situations, providing first aid in emergencies.

Required/Preferred

Ability to speak English to be understood by young children, staff and parents

Required

Ability to read English text of children's stories and as required for food preparation

Required

Ability to use kitchen utensils and appliances safely and appropriately for preparation of snacks

Can be trained

Ability to understand and follow instructions from Lead Teacher regarding set-up and supervision of activities and preparation of food

Required

Ability to relate to children ages two months to six years old as required for supervision of indoor and outdoor activities, toileting, meals, snacks and nap time

Required

Ability to act quickly and appropriately in hazardous situations to prevent accidents and to provide first aid in emergency situations

Required

Ability to direct classroom staff in overall program in the absence of Lead and Assistant Lead teachers

Required

Ability to work cooperatively with other staff in total child care program

Required

Knowledge of child development theory and best practices in early childhood group care and education

Required

Skill in resolving conflict with children and adults

Required

Physical ability to lift and carry children up to 40 pounds when necessary (frequent lifting)

Required

Hold at the time of hire the Associate Teacher-level teaching (or higher) permit from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing

Required

Be certified in pediatric and adult CPR and first aid
