The Mayor’s Office of State Legislative Affairs is seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented professional for the position of Chief of Staff.
About the Office:
The Mayor’s Office of State Legislative Affairs (SLA) serves as the principal liaison between the Administration of Mayor Eric Adams and the New York State Legislature and Executive, working to foster productive relationships with the Governor’s office, State Senate and Assembly. The Office assists the Mayor's Administration in developing and advancing the Administration’s agenda through State law and the State budget.
About the Role:
This position is based out of the Albany, N.Y. Office.
The Chief of Staff, a senior staff position, will report to the Director and work closely with the Director and Deputy Director to oversee the operational efficiency of the Office. The Chief of Staff serves as the central coordinator with leadership to ensure that informational and administrative tasks are being carried out, including ensuring that the day-to-day operations of the Office run smoothly.
Duties of the Chief of Staff include but are not limited to:
- Acting as an advisor to the Director/Deputy Director and representing the Director/Deputy Director in internal and external meetings;
- Facilitating interactions between the State Legislature and the administration, including responding to requests from members and staff in a timely manner;
- Tracking relevant legislation pertinent to the city and/or city agencies introduced in the State Legislature and monitoring its progress through the legislative process;
- Tracking the administration’s State legislative agenda and monitoring its progress through the legislative process;
- Supporting the management of systems that ensure the Office is efficiently and effectively to meet its mission; and
- Work with Deputy Director in overseeing and supervising staff, including providing direction to the team and support in the day-to-day operations of the Office.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree. Graduate degree (JD/MPA/MS) preferred.
· Experience in a senior level management position.
· Demonstrated understanding of and experience with any combination of the following: the State legislative process, public policy analysis, New York City or State agency operations and lobbying.
· Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills along with a strong work-ethic and the ability to work independently are imperative.
· Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects in a timely manner with constantly shifting priorities.
· A clear commitment to public service.
· Resilient, flexible and positive mindset; and
· Enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced, collaborative and dynamic team culture
Salary:
$120,000 - $136,000
