The cheerleading coach will collaborate with the Head Dance Coach & Director of Spirit Teams to elevate the game-day, overall school spirit, and competition at Illinois College. This includes overseeing the cheerleading program and supporting the recruitment, retention and overall experience of student athletes on the cheer team.

Essential Functions:

• Organize and oversee specific aspects of the cheer program including but not limited to: practice scheduling, coaching, and equipment maintenance.
• Work in partnership with the Head Dance Coach & Director of Spirit Teams to recruit new students and meet recruitment and roster goals for spirit teams by reviewing and evaluating recruit film.
• Understand and utilize best practices for safe and effective coaching
• Provide general supervision and oversight of student-athletes during practice sessions to ensure the health and physical well-being participants.
• Learn and abide by all applicable policies of governing bodies in which the team participates.
• Collaborate with coaching staff on ensuring academic performance and personal development of student-athletes is in alignment with institutional and program goals
• Maintain a high level of professionalism towards student-athletes, other coaches, parents, administrators, and members of the community.
• Keep abreast of new developments, innovative ideas and techniques by attendance at clinics, workshops and reviewing current publications.

Qualifications:

• High school graduate or equivalent, required
• Intercultural competency; ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds
• Experience as a cheer coach at the high school or college level, required;
• Must possess a thorough knowledge of cheer techniques
• Cheer coaching certification, preferred
• Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills with a passion and motivation to recruit and support student-athletes.
• Ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships, engage in creative problem-solving, and extend enlightened hospitality when working with others
• Must hold a valid driver's license with evidence of insurability
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings, weekends and some overnight travel.
• Possess an outcomes-oriented approach to coaching
• Ability to lift 30 pounds
