Overview:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduate theological degree (or equivalent graduate degree) from an accredited institution. Four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) completed.
Experience: Background in counseling, psychology or theology. Minimum of two years’ experience in pastoral care in a health care setting preferred.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform the essential physical requirements of the job.

JOB SUMMARY
Provide Pastoral, spiritual, comfort and counseling care to our patients, their families and members of the care team regardless of spiritual or religious backgrounds. Assist in recruiting and training Volunteer Chaplains. Serve as liaison between the hospital and community faiths. Actively participates in the activities and functions of the Palliative Care Program.

Knowledge and Skills: Fluent in the speaking reading and writing of the English language. Bilingual in Spanish preferred. Computer skills required. The interpersonal skills needed to work with distressed and anxious patients, families and employees. The analytical ability to assess patient’s spiritual needs and sense of well-being and find appropriate solutions to patient problems. An empathy for the problems experienced by patients and families; commitment to help the distressed. The communication skills necessary to counsel patients, families and employees. Knowledge of Advance Directives, Living Wills and other documents related to the patient’s health care wishes. Knowledge of end of life and grief issues. Understanding of varying faiths and its impact on the patient’s health care decisions and plan of care.
License/Certifications: Ordination or equivalent in a recognized faith group. Faith group endorsement required. Certification with the Association of Professional Chaplain (APC) or another cognate group preferred.
