Position Title: Certified School Nurse
Position Type: WPEA Bargaining Unit – 10 months
Supervisor: Building Principal or designee
District Summary: The William Penn School District is Located in southeastern Delaware County and serves approximately 5,000 students who reside in Aldan, Colwyn, Darby, East Lansdowne, Lansdowne, and Yeadon Boroughs. Position Summary: The School Nurse manages the school health program and maintains comprehensive health records for all students. Additionally, the School Nurse is responsible for general nursing work, including providing comprehensive health assessment, managing services to students, providing health counseling to the school community, and collaborating with school personnel and service providers to meet student needs.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Duties
- Plans, organizes, and monitors the school health program
- Schedules and conducts medical examinations for students
- Prepares and maintains comprehensive health histories for students; maintains comprehensive health records for students inclusive of screenings and examinations
- Conducts annual and periodic health screening tests
- Provides health counseling for students and the school community
- Interprets the health status of students to responsible and appropriate parties and counsels them in responding to health problems that interfere with learning; refers students and responsible adults to community resources for health care; conducts follow up procedures to confirm that students are receiving appropriate treatment
- Provides specialized nursing care for students with chronic conditions, including cathetherization, tube feeding, tracheostomy care
- Maintains the school health room; provides care in cases of illness or injury; provides treatment in accordance with the standing medical orders; advocates for a safe school environment and is alert to potential health and safety hazards
- Records health program data for evaluation and continuity of services
- Functions as a member of an interdisciplinary school team including principals, teachers, and counselors Interacts with community organizations and clinics

- Ability to recognize that each person is a unique individual even as we celebrate their group cultural heritage.
- Knowledge of PA Core Standards and Eligible Content Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) including, but not limited to, Schoology and Canvas Knowledge of Instructional Planning Guides as it relates to the instructional block
- Knowledge of Digital Curriculum components including but not limited to, Savvas: Elevate Science
- Courageously lead conversations focused on equity, closing opportunity gaps, and equal access to technology-infused lessons of rigor.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with District staff and administrators, students, parents or guardians, outside agencies, and the public, in a multi-ethnic, multicultural, multilingual environment.
- Receive and implement feedback to improve practice and systems.
Required Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited nursing program
- Valid registered professional nurse license issued by the State Board of Nursing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
- Valid School Nurse Certificate issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
- Eligible for a Pennsylvania driver's license at time of hire
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $49,363.00 - $99,894.00 per year
