Clean and maintain kennel and surrounding grounds. Assist with daily care of dogs. Assist in transporting dogs. Conducts training with youth, participates in planning of programs and with policies or objectives for own work group and department.
Responsibilities:
The assistant will be responsible for ensuring the canines are given exercise, cleaning and disinfection of the kennels, dog dishes, clean the A/C filter, remove trash when needed, power wash the kennel areas as needed, ensure that canines have food and water, fill holes in the yard, and pick up trash and after the dogs. The assistant will also help with the transport of canines when needed to vet clinics or to/from the shelter, assist the program coordinator in transporting and caring for dogs at various public events, and working with youth and canines in the detention unit on Thursdays and Fridays. The program coordinator and assistant will work together to ensure that monthly pest control on dogs is completed, as well as participate in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
Qualifications:
The assistant is required to be 21 years or older. The ideal program assistant will possess a High School Diploma/GED, have some knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting areas inside/outside, minor yard care and building maintenance. The assistant should possess good organizational skills with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, juveniles and other employees. Literate computer skills with knowledge of MS Word and Excel programs. The program assistant would also need to be eligible for certification as a Detention Officer, CPR, First Aid, Handle With Care Certification. Certifications can be obtained after employment begins. Valid Texas Driver’s License. Valid Driver’s License with current automobile insurance. Basic Animal Control Certification may be required after employment.

SALARY:
Part-Time - $18.75 per hour, up to 29 hours per week
WORK SCHEDULE: Tuesdays and Wednesdays – 7:00 a.m. to 12:00pm (flexible schedule possible), and Thursdays and Fridays – 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

1) A felony conviction against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years; a deferred adjudication for a felony against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years or current felony probation or parole

2) A jailable misdemeanor conviction against the laws of this state, another state or the United States within the past 5 years; a deferred adjudication for a jailable misdemeanor against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 5 years or current misdemeanor probation or parole

3) Registered as a sex offender under Chapter 62, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.
