General Job Description:

The position performs general maintenance and repair of the college facilities and equipment including carpentry and light plumbing, painting, electrical, etc.; works under hazardous conditions and must maintain safety awareness at all times. Knowledge of building, fire, health, and safety codes must be applied to ensure that the work done will pass inspection and meet ADA requirements. Reporting to the Director of Campus Operations this position will also coordinate with the college’s facilities team to complete small-scale projects and assist in construction of new campus projects that support the learning programs and the overall campus master plan.

1.

Constructs and/or repairs structural components or equipment on campus, working from blueprints, drawings, or oral instructions.

2.

Installs foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs from materials such as wood, steel, metal, concrete, and plastics, and composite materials.

3.

Constructs forms for poured concrete, reinforced concrete, or other masonry products.

4.

Modifies building materials in accordance with specifications by measuring, cutting, or sawing lumber, metal plates, poles, or other materials.

5.

Builds, repairs and installs counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, windows, building framework, trim, etc.

6.

Partitions rooms, buildings, and other spaces in accordance with plans.

7.

Performs various building trade tasks such as carpentry, painting, and concrete work.

8.

Conducts routine inspection of college facilities, equipment, and grounds for defects and to determine service needs.

9.

Respond to routine and non-routine construction related emergencies.

10.

Replaces damaged ceiling tile, floor tile, and wall coverings.

11.

Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency, and company directives as relates to building operation while practicing safe work habits.

12.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

Essential Skills:

  • 4+ years of related work experience
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematic drawings
  • Working knowledge of the operation and repair of mechanical equipment
  • Ability to estimate materials and labor cost of standard construction and remodeling projects
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to prioritize work and consistently meet deadlines
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks running simultaneously
  • Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting and problem solving
  • Ability to follow operation manuals, manufacturing and installation instructions, sketches, blueprints, and diagrams
  • Strong ability to operate typical office computer programs as well as other online programs
  • Strong interpersonal skills coupled with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Willing to provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants
  • Advanced knowledge of construction management processes, means and methods
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

Preferred Skills:

  • A general understanding of manufacturing facilities and processes
