Silver Sage is looking for a dynamic leader, pragmatic dreamer, and all-around camp-enthusiast to lead the future development and current growth of our overnight camp program. Our two rustic camp properties—Camp Alice Pittenger (CAP) on the shores of Payette Lake in McCall, Idaho and Camp TAM (TAM) snuggled in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest in Swan Valley, Idaho—see approximately 500-600 campers over the course of 8 weeks in the summer, primarily serving 2nd – 12th grade girls. As the department lead, the Camp Manager will be responsible for seasonal staff recruitment and hiring strategies, including recruiting and training seasonal Camp Directors to oversee daily camp operations. The right candidate will have experience in both horse and water-based programming in an overnight camp setting and have the skills and drive to build an exceptionally positive camp experience for diverse camp staff and campers alike. They will confidently multi-task between revenue forecasts and campfire programs knowing each task makes camp magic possible. They will be driven to increase access to quality camp programming and have a proven track record in implementing camp marketing and recruitment strategies to increase camper participation. Additionally, the right candidate for this position will be ready to dream big and enthusiastically lead future camp strategic planning efforts; eager to engage with Girl Scout members, community partners, and camp stakeholders to identify and lead the future of camp programming in Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council. This position is based out of our Headquarters office in Boise, Idaho. Onsite housing is available when camp is in session. Travel across the Council jurisdiction, including up to 10 weeks of extended travel during the camp season is required. This position is full time exempt, starts at 22 days of vacation + sick time, 24 hours of paid volunteer time annually, 4 weeks of paid Parental Leave after one year of service, up to 3% employer match in 401(K) and health insurance contributions.

Skill/Competencies

  • Knowledge American Camping Association requirements preferred.
  • Experience with Girl Scouts Camps and programming preferred.
  • Experience with horse and water-based camp programming a plus.
  • Volunteer management experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage stressful environments with high professionalism.
  • Demonstrated reasoning and negotiation skills to identify and resolve conflict.
  • Demonstrate ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and administration of budgets.
  • Experience in writing camp program curricula.
  • Strong grammar, proofreading, and editing skills.
  • Ability to analyze information, formulate work plans, articulate goals, and produce required statistical reports.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize work while managing multiple deadlines.
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to interact with diverse populations.

Additional Requirements

  • Minimum age: 25 years old (ACA standard).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evening and weekends.
  • Ability to travel throughout Council jurisdiction.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have personal transportation, possess a valid driver’s license, maintain personal auto insurance, and meet the Council insurance company’s requirement for coverage.
  • Employee must be able to reside at remote, rustic camp properties as needed and be willing to work irregular hours while camp is in session.
  • Must be able to live and work in an outdoor environment with exposure to heat, sun, rain, insects, uneven terrain and other outdoor elements.
