ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a CAD Manager who will coordinate with vendors, consultants, and workgroups to keep our client current with industry standards, procedures, and technology. Another key will be developing production measurements and a training curriculum based on staff needs and/or new software releases.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Some responsibilities of this role include the analysis and configuration of CAD systems, processes, and standards, with the goal of improving the efficiency of our production teams and the quality of their output. This can include the development of automation scripts, integration of CAD systems with other design and analysis tools. Other primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Development and implementation of CAD standards, procedures, and measurements to ensure adherence across company. Develop, implement, and monitor CAD design standards and procedures to meet customer needs.
- Provide guidance and direction to CAD team and their management to ensure operational and technical excellence. Develop tools and measurements to evaluate staff efficiency and performance to identify staff that are having issues with standards, technical skills, and job performance.
- Keep abreast of developments from our primary vendors to ensure our client's Engineering software packages are consistent and current across the environment.
- Serve as a technical resource to staff for CAD questions including troubleshooting individual or interdisciplinary CAD-related problems.
- Establishing and managing quality control and enforcement process to ensure departments are consistently adhering to the established standards and procedures.
- Work with IT to define CAD Software Images for VDI and Workstations/laptops. Collaborate with CAD IT Lead regarding technical issues, training, and other CAD system issues.
- Participate in billable customer projects to keep skills current - Preparing industry standard templates for various clients and projects.
- Identify opportunities and recommendations for increasing workflow efficiencies.
- Initiate and maintain contact with Software Vendors and CAD Teams to ensure clarity as well as to coordinate critical issues or for development/planning.
- Maintain currency in standards documentation and training material libraries.
- Coordinate communication – leading standards discussions, meetings, Teams site(s), etc.
- Coordinate the creation and maintenance of Civil specific CAD standards and tools consistent with industry standards.
- Develop and establish tools for CAD interdisciplinary and client specific integration.
- Investigates options for future upgrades, remains up to date with technical advances, reviews new versions of the CAD software, and generates technology evaluations for future software adoption.
- Experience working with public transportation partners (I.E. INDOT, ODOT, IDOT, KYTC, etc.) standards for roadway geometrics, topographic survey, boundary survey, bridge plans and plats of highways.
- Extensive experience in the use of multiple Engineering/CAD tools including those from Autodesk (AutoCAD, Revit, C3D, BIM, Inventor, etc.) and Bentley (MicroStation, OpenProducts [Roads/Bridge/Building/Designer/Rail/Etc.], SignCAD, STAAD, Bridge/Water/Inventor/GIS/etc.) products.
- Strong MS Office and Productivity Tools (Bluebeam, Visio, PowerBI, PowerApps, etc.) skills.
- Strong Architectural background – including leadership on complex, large or high-visibility projects.
- Demonstrated technical background with a broad base of experience, preferably with a Civil Engineering background, degree in IT, GIS, Civil Engineering, or related field a plus.
- Ability to be resourceful and apply critical thinking in an autonomous role, acting independently and coordinating with Operations Teams and IT when appropriate.
- Demonstrated history of maintaining currency of skills through mentoring, education, and billable work.
- Excellent communication skills and extensive experience in the following areas:
- Relationship building with staff, partners, and customers. Success in building and maintaining a positive work relationship through all levels of an organization.
- Strong writing skills and experience with development of training materials and documents.
- Experience in leading meetings that drive standards, solutions, and complex deliverables.
- Teaching/Mentoring experience – guiding and raising the skill and quality of Junior Architects/Engineers.
- Strong ability to analyze problems and coordinate staff and customers/partners as necessary to resolve issues or implement process improvements.
- Strong conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to understand and assimilate thoughts, ideas and solutions and communicate them in a concise and consumable manner.
NICE TO HAVE
- Civil Engineering, Design, Surveying, and GIS experience preferred in the public works, commercial, residential and transportation projects.
- Knowledge of GIS, LIDAR/Digital Surveys, Trimble, and Leica processes.
