Job Title: Bus/Car Monitor
(Level 2; 182 days Employment Contract)
Requirements:
Educational Level: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience Desired: Experience in transporting humans preferred; or any equivalent
combination of training and experience which provides the
required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Physical Requirements: Requires the ability to sit for extended periods. Requires
significant climbing, grasping, and repetitive motions. Regularly
requires the employee to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. without
assistance and assist with students weighing up to 100 lbs. May
require stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching,
standing, walking, and pushing. Must be able to pass an annual
physical to operate a school bus, which includes specific vision
tests to include: close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth
perception vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions: Occasionally subjected to mechanical breakdown of the vehicle.
Atmospheric conditions may occasionally cause road hazards.
Also, possible exposure to a variety of childhood diseases.
REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Operations
Nature of Work: The employee rides a school bus or car on an assigned route(s) and
schedule to provide safe and efficient transportation so that
Students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the
Programs and offerings of the school system. The employee
Must exercise tact and courtesy in maintaining acceptable
relations with parents/guardians of students transported and
with school personnel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
- Assists in conducting pre-trip inspections of school bus/car for defects prior to every trip
- Assists in transporting students using established routes and designated stops
- Assists in maintaining the bus/car on an approved time schedule
- Stays informed and respond appropriately to schedule changes
- Assists in enforcing safety rules, documenting student disciplinary incidents on discipline reports, and submitting to appropriate personnel in a timely manner
- Assists in establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with other drivers, teachers, students, parents, and other school staff
- Assists in accurately completing and maintaining up-to-date route sheets on bus/car at all times (as needed)
- Assists in conducting emergency evacuation drills as required by the division’s regulations.
- Attends all in-service safety meetings
- Attends all required meetings
- Assists in maintaining the cleanliness of the vehicle
- Assists in reporting to law enforcement incidents involving vehicles passing school bus stop signs and appears in court when summoned (as needed)
- Pass pre-employment safety and annual physical testing and all random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with policy
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Operations
