Job description
Under the supervision of the Chief Building Inspector this position is responsible for ensuring new construction, renovation, and additions for building and structures are constructed to applicable Wicomico County Codes (e.g. International Code Council’s Building, Energy, and Residential Codes). This position has responsibility of plan review; inspections for footers, foundation, framing, and energy compliance; issuance of building code violations; and issuance of certificate of occupancy. Other duties, include, but are not limited to the following activities:
- Conduct plan review and inspections for agricultural, commercial, industrial, and residential construction projects to ensure compliance with applicable County, State and Federal Codes;
- Issue residential and commercial certificate of occupancy permits;
- Inspect mobile home parks for compliance with applicable building codes;
- Respond to complaints about unauthorized building code violations;
- Attend Building Official Association meetings, as well as relevant seminars, meetings and training;
- Assist County’s Department of Emergency Services with damage assessments; and
- Other job-related tasks and opportunities as assigned.
Education and Experience:
High School diploma and a minimum of one year of relevant experience to successfully perform the job. Ability to interpret building plans and construction drawings. Computer experience using spreadsheets, database, and Microsoft software. International Code Council’s Residential and Commercial Building Inspector and / or Plans Examiner certifications are desirable. Position requires a valid driver’s license.

Pay: $44,300.00 - $53,100.00 per year
