United Way of Buffalo & Erie County is seeking a Breastfeeding Project Coordinator. The Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating all program activities related to the NYS Breastfeeding, Chestfeeding, and Lactation Friendly grant initiative in Erie County. The position will work to develop and implement strategies to increase breastfeeding exclusivity and duration, especially among families in low income and racially/ethnically diverse communities, and to ultimately reduce breastfeeding health disparities, focusing on services for families residing in the cities of Buffalo, Lackawanna, and Tonawanda and the Towns of Cheektowaga, Brant, Concord and Collins. The Coordinator is responsible for grant management including monitoring, data collection, reporting, and subcontractor relationships. This position reports to the Program Director - Health Initiatives.
Responsibilities:

Report to the United Way Director of Health Initiatives and Coalition leadership to implement work plans and meet program goals and objectives. -
Serve as Coordinator/Public Health Planner for Starting Line Healthy Births coalition by coordinating breastfeeding activities such as:

Conduct community health planning activities that assess strengths and gaps in the breastfeeding care continuum and establish priorities that facilitate mutually reinforcing breastfeeding activities;

Create, implement and/or coordinate breastfeeding activities to advance coalition goals, objectives and strategies;

Develop instruments and protocols for testing effectiveness of breastfeeding strategies;

Collect, manage, and analyze community health indicators data related to breastfeeding activities;

Coordinate communication, marketing and advocacy efforts with United Way’s Communications Manager and Director of Research and Director of Advocacy;

Assist Director of Health Initiatives in developing health policies to improve breastfeeding exclusivity and duration.

Develop and implement data collection methods, tools, and evaluation measures for breastfeeding activities and associated projects in conjunction with subcontractors and agency partners. -
Coordinate and facilitate partner meetings and communicate effectively with members to promote collaboration, negotiation, and problem solving.

Plan, coordinate and conduct community-based health promotion educational and training activities. Develop training content, reference materials, and workshops on breastfeeding supports for coalition and community members, including subcontractors and agency partners.

Continually broaden expertise in the area of infant nutrition, particularly breastfeeding, and serve as a resource to the coalition, agency partners, subcontractors and the community-at-large.

Conduct literature/resource reviews to identify best practices and inform policy for Starting Line Healthy Births Coalition breastfeeding efforts.

Represent United Way of Buffalo & Erie County and the Starting Line Healthy Births Coalition through professional associations.

Education, Skills, Knowledge, Experience:
Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years of appropriate experience; or 7 years of appropriate experience.-
Master’s degree preferred

Current lactation certification such as CLC, with IBCLC preferred

Experience with health education programs in community setting

Proven ability to work independently

Excellent organizational skills

Highly proficient with Microsoft Office and general computer skills
