Job Summary
The Board Operator is responsible for constant monitoring and remote operations of the distribution control center to ensure all operating parameter (e.g., flow, pressures, temperatures, and inventory levels) are safe for loading and unloading of tank trucks, rail cars, barges and ships. This position will be required to learn and safely operate terminal equipment and perform daily operating functions in conjunction with the loading and unloading activities.
Responsibilities
- Interface with customers, inspectors, and vessel personnel for the purpose of reporting operational status.
- Interface between the Traffic Department and Operations Department.
- Scheduling of product movement in conjunction with Operations.
- Preparation and verification of product movement accountability.
- Monitor terminal tank levels.
- Record inventory by movements.
- Run daily inventory reports and material balance checks.
- Notification of spills and emergencies to proper authorities both inside and outside of IMTT.
- Coordinates with the Drumming Department, Operations Supervisors and Truck and Rail Loaders on product movements.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience working in an industrial environment.
- Excellent understanding of principles of tank gauging and volume and mass calculations.
- Valid Driver’s License
- TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credentials) for access to IMTT’s terminal locations.
Skills and Abilities
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
- Ability to understand written and verbal communication in the English language.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment
- Ability to work closely with others with a positive attitude and a willingness to help others.
- Ability to represent IMTT in a professional and positive manner.
- Compliance with all Company policies and procedures.
- Experience and proficiency in the use of computers including the commonly used office software.
- Aptitude for working with accounting and reporting software.
Hours of Work
- Typical hours of operation require this position to work at night, on weekends, and holidays on a regular rotating shift. This is a 12-hour position.
- This position requires overtime and occasional weekend work as job duties demand.
- Occasional travel may be necessary, sometimes with little or no advance notice.

- This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and smartphones.
- The large scale of the operation and the extensive layout of the facility require that the employee have the ability to walk and stand on uneven terrain, to climb stairs and ladders, and traverse inclines: uphill, downhill or mixed. Because the facility and adjoining facilities handle hazardous materials, the applicant must be able to ingress and egress in foreseeable emergencies. The applicant must be able to work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
- The job requires strenuous activities and heavy lifting in an outdoor environment. Incumbent must walk rough terrain, climb stairs and ladders on 80-foot-high tanks and lift 50 pounds on a routine basis.
- Must be capable of wearing respirator and/or other PPE during some operations or emergencies.
