Job Summary

BioLegend has an opening for a self-motivated individual with production experience in a fast moving and dynamic environment to join our Purification team! The Biochemist I will be an integral member of a team, that manufactures and provides purified antibodies to enable studies for novel applications in precision medicine, oncology, immunology, neuroscience, and stem cell research.

This position will report to a team lead and will ensure the highest quality of our finalized antibody products. This is a great opportunity to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment for you to enhance your knowledge in the biotechnology industry! In this position you will perform column chromatography, troubleshooting of problematic errors, continue to improve methodologies for efficiency, follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)s, and cross train on a variety of other supporting tasks.

Essential Functions

• Follow SOPs and batch records
• Execute purification of mono, polyclonal, and recombinant antibodies
• Perform all essential functions related to antibody purification, include dilution and buffer exchange of antibodies
• Possess a basic understanding of IgG antibody protein structure and how antibody purification is performed
• Perform basic math calculations to calculate the amount of antibodies and concentrations
• Perform dialysis, centrifugation, and column chromatography
• Follow SOPs and batch records, complying with ISO policies and procedures
• Capable of using lab equipment such as balance, spectrophotometer, nanodrop, UV detector, and pH Meter
• Conduct Endotoxin tests
• Capable of advance in multiple projects simultaneously and work in a team environment
• Assist with troubleshooting
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience

• Associate’ s degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or other related area, Biotech certification, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant lab experience with column chromatography, analytical assays, and detection methods in an industry setting or full time academic environment.

Preferred Qualifications – Education and Experience

• BS degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or other related area, Biotech Certification, or equivalent experience
• Familiarity with ERP/MRP databases to execute production order
• Have an experience working in Aseptic Technique in biosafety cabinet, basic protein purification, FGMP/QSR, analytical assays such as endotoxin
• Ability to perform column chromatography and the ability to use lab equipment such as AKTA, various sizes of columns, balance, pipette, spectrophotometer, Nanodrop, UV detector, agarose gel electrophoresis, endotoxin (LAL) tests, and pH meter
• Ability to meet important deadlines and due dates
• Strong multitasking/prioritization skills
• Strong communication skills

The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work at BioLegend in San Diego, California is $26.44 to $30.41 (hourly). The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to: the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. BioLegend is a multi-state employer and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
