Behavioral Health Consultant - Bilingual (Eng/Span)
Job description
JOB SUMMARY: Provide behavioral health consultation to children, adolescents, adults and families with a focus on Substance Use Disorders (SUD), including Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) and Mental Health (MH) issues. This position will lead the ETCHSI SUD-MH team whose goal is to provide community education and awareness along with patient-focused integrated mental health services within a Patient Center Medical Home (PCMH) environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide assessment, consultation, and brief intervention for psychological/psychiatric problems and/or disorders.
2. Teach patients, families, and staff care, prevention, and treatment enhancement techniques
3. Provide effective treatment planning and assisting clients in successfully achieving goals.
4. Evaluate crisis situations and apply appropriate interventions.
5. Actively participate in meetings that support integrated health care model to provide comprehensive care for clients.
6. Assist in the detection of "at risk" patients and development of plans to prevent further psychological or physical deterioration.
7. Assist the primary care team in developing care management processes such as the use of guidelines, disease management techniques, case management, and patient education to improve self-management of chronic disease.
8. Infrequently, provide comprehensive assessment and diagnosis of behavioral health clients.
9. Monitor the site's behavioral health program, identifying problems related to patient services and making recommendations for improvement.
10. If bilingual, translates in Spanish between non-Spanish speaking staff and Spanish speaking patients, as requested.
11. Performs all other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
Master’s Degree in Social Work from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), Master’s Degree in Counseling from a program accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling Related Programs (CACREP), or PhD in Clinical Psychology.
EXPERIENCE:
Previous medical office experience preferred.
LICENSURE:
Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Professional Counselor (LPC), or Psychologist licensed in the State of Texas
SKILLS:
- Excellent working knowledge of behavioral medicine and evidence-based treatments for medical and mental health conditions.
- Ability to work through brief patient contacts as well as to make quick and accurate clinical assessments of mental and behavioral conditions.
- Should be comfortable with the pace of primary care, working with an interdisciplinary team,
and have strong communication skills.
- Good knowledge of psycho-pharmacology
- Ability to design and implement clinical pathways and protocols for treatment of selected chronic conditions. ·
- Work under stressful conditions as well as irregular hours may be required.
- Bilingual preferred (English-Spanish).
