Blue Heron Bakery is now hiring for part-time baristas!

We are a small, local business that has been serving Olympia for over 40 years. We specialize in products with organic ingredients and a menu with many vegan and gluten-free options. We take pride in producing high quality bread, pastries, and granola, and serving great organic coffee to go with them.

Your schedule would be 3 to 5 six hour shifts per week depending on your availability, and could be either an opening or closing shift. As a barista you will make espresso and other specialty drinks, become an expert on all of the bakery’s products, and take orders and comfortably answer customers’ questions about our take out menu.

You will also:

• Operate the cash register
• Serve customers with a sense of urgency and correctly take to-go orders
• Communicate well with back of house on daily pastry offerings
• Package and shelve products
• Keep the storefront well stocked and clean

Must be:

• 18 or older
• Have reliable transportation
• Have great communication skills and a cooperative attitude
• Able to lift 25 lbs
• Able to work well under pressure
• Able to stand for several hours

Preferred qualifications:

• One year of barista and customer service experience
• Food production experience a plus
• Awareness of alternative diets and a passion for healthy foods a plus

There is also the possibility of working at our stand at the Farmers Market or learning some beginning baking if you have an interest. We are soon becoming a co-op so an interest in cooperative principles and collective management are also desired. Applicants with a cover letter are much more likely to get a response. Thank you!
