Setting Up the Bar

The banquet bartender is responsible for setting up the beverage service area, which includes positioning a portable bar. The bartender makes sure the bar is stocked with appropriate glassware, cocktail stirring rods, napkins and drink garnishes.

The bartender also stocks the bar with soft drinks, liquor, wine, beer and other beverages provided by the party. Part of the setup include looking at traffic flow. If a line forms, it shouldn't interfere with food servers, the band or any other important staging area.

Handling Bartending Services

The bartender is responsible for filling drink orders for guests, answering questions about drink ingredients and making suggestions for different types of beverages and cocktails. The bartender will coordinate with banquet servers in providing champagne to toast the bride and groom or supply wines at a dinner reception.

The bartender is responsible for ensuring that alcoholic beverages are not dispensed to people under the age of 21. The banquet bartender may be required to monitorthe alcohol intake of guests in accordance with the banquet hall or catering company’s service and insurance policies. If the event is a cash bar, the bartender is responsible for taking payment for drinks.

Breaking Down the Bar

After the event, the bartender is responsible for tearing down the bar, washing and storing glasses and disposing of trash and recyclables including plastic cups, bottles and cans. The bartender disposes leftover garnishes and thoroughly cleans and disinfects the bar equipment.

the bartender will need to update inventory records and account for what was served. That means putting empty liquor bottles in boxes, rather than a garbage can. This allows the facility to order more of what's needed and can help reduce theft.
