Old Sturbridge Village is currently seeking a motivated part time Bakery Assistant to join our restaurant team. Reporting to the Head Baker/Pastry Chef, the Bakery Assistant will support the expansion of the Village’s dessert and pastry offerings. Candidates should be passionate, innovative, willing to learn, self-driven and consistent. An ideal position for someone that wants to get started in the culinary filed learning from our skilled staff. This role will contribute to Old Sturbridge Village’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility.

This is a non-costumed position.

Old Sturbridge Village, the largest outdoor history museum in the Northeast, depicts a rural New England town of the 1830s. Step inside more than 40 original buildings, and explore homes, meetinghouses, a district school, country store, bank, working farm, three water-powered mills, and trade shops – all situated on more than 200 scenic acres. Job Responsibilities:

· Help to maintain cleanliness, stock control, organization and standards of operations.

  • Ability to understand and follow existing recipes, measure, weigh, and prepare ingredients.
  • Maintain high standards for the work area and appearance.

· Help to ensure that the production, preparation and presentation of food are of the highest quality.

  • Monitor oven temperatures, speed settings, mixing machines, and other baking equipment.
  • Competent knowledge and application of food preparations and procedures

· Assists with prep and baking of a wide variety of baked goods and pastries.

· Promotes diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility.

· Support the Food & Beverage Team as needed

Qualifications:

Applicant must be over 18 years old.

· High school degree or equivalent.

  • Baking: 1 year (Preferred)

· Ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups.

  • Must possess strong customer service skills, positive attitude, good personal hygiene, friendly and upbeat personality.

· Familiarity with all professional kitchen equipment, including mixers, food processors and blenders

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for 5 hours or more
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

· Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently

· Demonstrate commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.

· Will maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen (ServSafe and allergen training preferred)

  • Must be available to work weekdays, evenings, holidays and weekend shifts

Job Type: Part-time, non-benefits eligible

Pay: Starting at $15.00- $17.00 per hour based on experience
