The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is seeking an energetic, community-oriented individual to take its Athletic program to the next level. You will be the catalyst to lead innovative change in alignment with the department’s mission, “Together we connect and enrich our community through exceptional experiences”. The Athletic Program Director will focus on the following key areas:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Plans, organizes, and promotes athletic events and leagues for various age groups, including football, softball, track, basketball, baseball, inline hockey, lacrosse, and ultimate frisbee.
- Recruits, trains, and advises umpires, referees, and coaches in rules and procedures of various sports.
- Manages day-to-day operations of all athletic programs.
- Makes periodic observation and evaluation of athletic events and games for quality of competition, proper use of equipment and facilities, and sportsmanship.
- Counsels and advises parents concerning participation of children in athletic programs.
- Tracks and develops budget revenue and expenditures.
- Hires, trains, and supervises full-time and part-time staff; handles related personnel matters.
- Plans, organizes, and works at several annual city-wide special events.
- Prepares reports of program activities, presents awards, and participates in award ceremonies.
- Assists with public relations and the development of various marketing materials, such as: brochures, websites, newspaper ads, posters, flyers, etc.
- Assists the City in cleanup and repair during inclement weather situations.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly supervises four full-time employees in the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Bachelor's Degree in parks and recreation, business or public administration, five years of professional recreational programming and/or parks or facilities management experience and two years of supervisory experience.
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing/Certifications:
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- CPR/First Aid required, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Master's Degree preferred.
- Certified Parks and Recreation Professional preferred.
- Certified Youth Sports Administrator preferred.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of Database software, Spreadsheet software, Word Processing software, and financial databases and systems.
ADA and Other Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with frequent exposure to hazardous physical conditions (such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibration, etc.); frequent exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as chemicals, blood and other body fluids); frequent exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment); frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and movement restrictions; and moderate exposure intense noise or travel.
