Summary
The Associate Executive Director reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for assisting in the overall operation of the community in accordance with resident needs, state regulations, and upholding our internal policies and procedures. This position works with the Executive Director in planning all aspects of community operations including strategic planning, hiring and staffing, team leadership and resident relations.
Success in this role depends upon performance, developing positive relationships with the community at large, families and residents on behalf of the community.
Responsibilities (Includes, but are not limited to the following)
- Assist in overseeing the essential functions of the community with a strong emphasis on customer service. Functional responsibilities may include the oversight and leadership of some of the following departments in all areas of the community (could include Independent Living, Assisted Living, and/or Memory care): dining, activities, reception, resident care, sales and marketing, business office, maintenance and housekeeping to ensure high standards of service delivery
- Works collaboratively with the Executive Director to ensure community cohesiveness and achievement of overall community objectives
- Assist in Recruitment, hiring, coaching, and counseling of associates (including Department Heads), works with Department Heads to ensure they are doing the same within their teams
- Assists with preparing the annual budget with the Executive Director, and is responsible for maintaining the budget within areas of responsibility
- Lead by example, being visible and available to all associates, while promoting a spirit of teamwork and cooperation among all departments
- Actively involved in working with residents, families, and authorized representatives to address and resolve concerns
- Participates in Department Head, All Staff, and Line Up meetings
- Active participation with the sales and marketing for the community
- Work with Executive Director to ensure company philosophies are communicated, implemented and practiced
- Active participation with associates, outside agencies, and residents with their authorized representatives, to ensure a positive flow of communication and prompt resolution of any issues
- Participates in resident and family community councils
- Involvement as needed in local community events
- Perform any other responsibilities/duties as assigned or may be assigned by the Executive Director to assure the goals and objectives of the community are fulfilled
Qualifications, Education, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
- Minimum three (3) years management and/or supervisory experience, preferred in senior housing or other relevant leadership experience within healthcare, long term care, or with the elderly population
- Demonstrate passion for leading and developing associates and promoting excellent service delivery to seniors
- Must possess sound judgment, problem solving, and decision making abilities
- Strong interpersonal communication skills to a wide range of audiences including family members, government agencies, general public, etc.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
- Must have good organizational and time management skills
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Excellent Computer Skills
- Prefer a candidate who holds a certification as an assisted living administrator or be willing to attain the certification within 1 year of hire or promotion.
Special Working Conditions
- Occasional resident assistance including (but not limited to) pushing wheelchairs, helping to sit, walk, stand, etc…
- Able to work a minimum of forty (40) hours a week and be able to work flexible hours (evenings and weekends) and be available to respond during off duty hours to community issues and emergencies
- Coping skills to personally handle and lead through stressful situations including grief management and death within the community
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
- High level of comfort and confidence around the elderly
