Job Description:

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES

• Assist the Vineyard Manager in management of 1500+ acres of vineyards.
• Assist the Vineyard Manager to achieve budgetary and wine grape quality goals.
• Assist the Vineyard Manager in maintaining high standards in the production of quality wine grapes and operations of the vineyards.
• Supervise foreman, equipment operators, and irrigators in the cultivation practices of vine management, including pruning, training and canopy management.
• Provide close supervision of FLC (Farm Labor Contractor) crews and validate piece rate counts.
• Harvest operations -both mechanical and hand harvesting.
• Irrigation & Trellis - monitoring and repairs.
• Chemical application and recording processes.
• Responsible for care and maintenance of vineyard equipment.
• Microsoft Excel and Word for writing RFPs and purchase requests as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Chemical Management

• Store and apply chemicals in accordance with manufacturer’s directions.

Ensure all appropriate personal protective used appropriately equipment is used when applying chemicals.

• Maintain chemical log in accordance with legislative requirements.

Vine Management

• Pruning, shoot & fruit thinning, de-suckering, wire lifting, training of young vines and other seasonal activities such as frost operation.
• Carry out pre-harvest preparation activities.
• Pre-harvest activities completed to deadlines as per company requirements.
• Manage mechanical harvesting operations and support activities.
• Manage hand picking operations.
• Manage all post harvest clean up operations.
• Harvest conducted successfully and all equipment cleaned and appropriately serviced.

Machinery Operations

• Manage various tractor operations, including spraying, slashing, hedging, under vine weeding, cultivation etc.

Irrigation & Trellis Maintenance

• Monitor irrigation for any leaks and repair as required.
• All irrigation and trellis systems are in good working order.
• Repair trellis posts and wires as required.

Equipment Maintenance

• Equipment is maintained in accordance with manufactures requirements.
• Equipment is operational and available when required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
