Use appropriate teaching methods to facilitate student learning for Special Education courses.
This position is a tenure track with a 9 month contract with deffer pay. This position can be considered for remote work depending on candidate but prefer in person faculty.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Teaches and supervises a 12-credit hour course load per semester, comprised of lectures, presentations, labs, etc.
  • Primary responsibilities will be instruction of special education related content.
  • Assists in managing the application and supervision process for Special Education majors in all programs field placement in concert with the Director of Field Experience.
  • Prepares candidates for state and national license examinations and/or certification requirements.
  • Assists other special education concentration students and cooperating field mentors and faculty before and during field experiences including evaluation of exit requirements, in which candidates demonstrate that they have met program and licensure competencies.
  • Advises Special Education students. Coordinates candidate evaluation information as part of program assessment, accreditation and other regulatory reports.
  • Monitors and collaborates with other faculty, contributes to the University’s effort to refine the effectiveness of programs.
  • Acts as liaison with community agencies and special education partners.
  • Participates in assessment, recruitment, retention, and accreditation efforts.
  • Conducts research program or other scholarship activities suitable to a small, teaching university that accommodates the inclusion of undergraduate students.
  • Provides professional contributions within areas of expertise as appropriate.
  • Participates in departmental and University committees and special projects.
  • Provides a broad range of administrative and supervisory functions. Supervises assigned staff in accordance with WNMU personnel practices including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, guidance, etc. Participates in the process of ongoing personal and professional development. Maintains comprehensive communication among all contacts (internal and external). Models professional standards and ethics in accordance with WNMU philosophy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Job Knowledge: Extensive knowledge in the field in which the individual will be teaching. Skill in effectively teaching graduate students using distance/online and other state-of-the-art instructional modalities and methods. Ability and commitment to conduct research, scholarly and creative accomplishments, and service. Ability to work within a collaborative faculty environment. Ability to work effectively and patiently with students. Must be knowledgeable of University policies and procedures. Must be able to handle multiple deadlines and maintain accuracy. Must be sensitive to cultural differences within the University and community. Fluent in Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Working Conditions/Physical Demands (With or Without Accommodations): Normal classroom and laboratory environment. May be required to lift normal office equipment and materials. Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information. Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication. Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions. Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting. May be required to work additional hours or days depending on circumstances.

Certifications/Licenses & Minimum Requirements:
Master’s in Special Education or a doctorate in a closely-related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Special Education required. Doctorate of Special Education and 3 years of experience as a Special Education teacher preferred. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

$57,259 w/o terminal degree to $62,109 with terminal.
