Summary: Performs veterinary medication and veterinary supply purchasing functions for Littleton Equine Medical Center ensuring inventory stock remains at a functional level.


Wage:
$20-$23 per hour. This is a part time position.

Starting Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Prepares and handles all veterinary medication and supply purchasing activities ensuring competitive pricing and clinic policies are followed
  • Ensures all items received from vendors is in appropriate condition, as ordered, and priced correctly
  • Ensures all items are received into the veterinary software appropriately and paperwork is passed to the appropriate departments
  • Handles wasting of medications appropriately
  • Returns overstock, short-dated, or outdated items to vendors for credit
  • Maintain appropriate levels of quantity on hand, reorder level, and reorder quantity in the veterinary software
  • Rotates stock supporting the first in-first out theory
  • Assists in managing all inventory counts for all locations
  • Assists in supervising and training all personnel on Central Supply protocols
  • Oversee intra clinic transfers between locations
  • Oversee online medication requests
  • Assists with maintaining positive control of controlled substances and maintaining DEA compliance
  • Assists in managing medication and supply inventory coding in practice management system upon completion of training class
  • Use reports and growth forecasting to determine the best purchase amounts to promote a healthy product turnover and avoid stock outages
  • Meets with vendor representatives to stay abreast with new products, specials, and other pertinent details
  • Meets with hospitals veterinarians/staff to discuss best use of product and product alternatives to promote product consolidation
  • Stay current with product obsolescence, product unavailability, and regulatory restrictions that may disrupt the inventory planning process

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience: Graduation from an AVMA accredited school of veterinary technology and successful completion of the VTN preferred. Equine related experience and/or training preferred.

Special Skills: Pharmacology background preferred

Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as drug doses, dilutions, percentages, rate, ratio and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, add subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills: Computer literacy in common computer software programs. Working knowledge of HVMS is a must.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions throughout all four seasons. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather) and work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to risk of radiation and chemical exposure. Knowledge of MSDS use and personal protective gear including (but not limited to) gloves, masks, respirators and eyewash stations are required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
