The Assistant Fleet Manager works closely with the Fleet Manager to help coordinate tender movement and placement to best facilitate the assigned area’s fleet. Constant and effective communication with fishermen and production staff is necessary to optimize buying capacity as well as ensure efficiency in offloading to receiving docks. The Assistant Fleet Manager must be committed to an exceptional experience for our fishermen.


Essential Functions:


  • Timely and regular attendance.
  • Work closely with fishermen, Plant Manager and Dock Boss to coordinate and schedule dock offloads as efficiently as possible to ensure tenders are back on the fishing grounds buying product.
  • Ensures all vessels are operated and maintained with exceptional standards to ensure a safe seafood product. Facilitate in ordering parts and scheduling repairs for fleet tenders when necessary.
  • Keep a detailed and orderly inventory of scales, rental skiffs, and freight for fleet.
  • Supervise Fleet Expeditor and facilitate delivery of mail and packages from processing facility to fishing vessels.
  • Assist the Fleet Manager in coordinating and managing 15-30 tenders depending on run strength.
  • Assist Fleet Manager with daily communication with ADF&G regarding fishing updates, announcement information, and overall strategy.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Competencies:


Education:


High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred but not required.


Employee must have a minimum of 3 years in the seafood industry with experience in processing, fleet and operations practices.


Training/Skills:


Essential computer skills include basic understanding of email, Microsoft Office and Excel. Knowledge of Marine Exchange of Alaska preferred but not required. General knowledge of how to use a VHF radio for communication with fleet. Extremely close attention to detail and organizational skills will play a huge role for managing data that the incumbent will be responsible for creating and maintaining.


Employee must possess a valid US Driver’s License.


Ability to generate, read and comprehend basic instructions. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to crew members, and other employees of Peter Pan Seafood. Ability to perform basic mathematical functions using units of American currency, weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Physical Demands:


The Assistant Fleet Manager must be 18 years or older and be authorized to legally work in the United States.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.


Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.


Mental Activities:


The Assistant Fleet Manager needs the ability to multitask in a high demand environment. Focus and concentration on numbers, reports and associated details are critical. The employee needs to be able to discern details on projects, spreadsheets, etc. The employee needs to regularly demonstrate attention to detail and the ability to demonstrate understanding of reports as well as the ability to draw appropriate conclusion from the data. The employee is required to use creativity, problem solving, independent judgment and discretion.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
:


The Assistant Fleet Manager position requires driven machinery certifications such as an expeditor or flatbed truck which in turn requires a valid driver’s license.


Work Environment:


The Assistant Fleet Manager will spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. The incumbent is located in a busy office area and is faced with constant interruptions and must meet with different kinds of people on a regular basis. The Assistant Fleet Manager may be required to make trips to and from town driving a company vehicle.
