Summary
The Town of Gorham is currently seeking qualified candidates interested in joining our Fire Rescue Department team in the role of Assistant Fire Rescue Chief. This is a non-union full-time salaried exempt position responsible for assisting the Fire Rescue Chief in managing the day-to-day operations of a combination Fire-EMS department to ensure the effective, safe, and efficient delivery of emergency and non-emergency services in the community. The Assistant Fire Rescue Chief serves as second in command within the department and performs a variety of technical, administrative, and supervisory work related to fire prevention, fire suppression, emergency medical services, technical rescue, and hazardous materials response. This position assists the Fire Rescue Chief with oversight of 2 FT Administrative Assistants, 1 FT Fire Mechanic (shared with Town of Windham), 10 FT Firefighters (all trained at the level of EMT or Paramedic), 2 Call Company Deputies, and over 150 Call Company personnel and live-in students. The Town"s EMS personnel respond to over 3,000 calls per year and are assigned to six stations, including four stations within Gorham"s 59 square miles and two shared stations located in neighboring towns. Compensation & Benefits
Pay range for Grade 6 positions in FY23 starts at $65,249; however, actual salary will depend on experience, qualifications, and budget availability. The Town of Gorham offers a comprehensive package of pay, benefits, and paid time off to eligible employees. The Town currently pays 90% of the premium cost for all health insurance coverage levels and provides a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) to help cover the cost of out-of-pocket medical expenses, such as deductible and coinsurance. Individuals declining health coverage are eligible for an annual medical buyout in lieu of coverage. In addition to a choice between two excellent health insurance plans and paid vacation, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays per year, employees have access to dental, vision, medical and dependent care Flexible Spending Accounts, life insurance, short-term disability, IRAs, tuition reimbursement, and more. This position is eligible to choose between participating in the MainePERS Special Plan 3C defined benefit retirement plan (25 year, No-Age, 2/3 AFC) or a 457(b) deferred compensation retirement plan with a 7.5% employer match after six months. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Minimum Requirements - Bachelor"s Degree required. A minimum of 8 years" experience as a Firefighter/EMT, plus 3 years" of supervisory experience in the fire service required. Must be licensed in the State of Maine as an EMT-Advanced or higher and have Firefighter I certification or higher. Specialized training in fire department administration and prior experience conducting training preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. Must have the ability to respond to emergency scenes, sometimes outside of normal work hours, and perform all essential duties of this position. Valid Class C or higher Driver"s License required.
