What you’ll be doing:

The Division of Institutional Advancement at Utah Valley University is hiring a Prospect Research Assistant to enhance our individual and institutional major gifts fundraising program. The Prospect Research Assistant is primarily responsible for conducting basic biographical prospect research and data entry, preparing donor research summaries, and supporting the research team’s fundraising goals. Additionally, they are responsible for reviewing electronic news, business, and non-profit information sources for pertinent data regarding potential University volunteers and donors. This position is a great opportunity for a self-motivated, curious, analytical individual to build a career in fundraising within a large higher education institution.

Required Qualifications
Graduation with high school diploma and one year of related experience or any combination of job related experience and education totaling one year. May require additional certifications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge:
  • Knowledge and familiarity with wealth screening services/software.
  • Knowledge and experience with Raisers Edge.
  • Basic knowledge of fundraising
  • practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience with a fundraising database(s) and data entry.
  • Basic knowledge of financial data including real estate assessment, executive compensation (including stock and stock option), and foundation 990 tax forms.
  • Knowledge of fundraising or nonprofit organizations helpful.


Skills:
  • Skilled in analysis.
  • Skills in data entry.
  • Strong research, critical thinking, communication and writing skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft office (Word and excel) and ability to type quickly and accurately.

Abilities:
  • Ability to work independently, while prioritizing and successfully balancing multiple tasks and projects.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with confidential information.
  • Ability to follow detailed instruction.
  • Ability to maintain discretion.
  • Pay close attention to detail and perform repetitive and detail-oriented tasks.
  • Strong ability to read, synthesize and analyze large amounts of complex data containing confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications
2 years of university coursework plus one year of relative experience OR a combination of relevant experience totaling 3 years.

Physical Requirements
Consistently required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and reports; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal.
