Job description
Assist the Head Coach with all facets of administering a Division I program. Uphold the institution’s commitment to the integrity of its athletics program including through adherence to the Institutes, conference, and NCAA rules and expectations. Identify and evaluate the prospective student-athletes. Assist in the coordination of recruiting activities for the program. Work with individual student-athletes to develop and refine athletic skills, while also supporting in the development of their academic and personal growth. Assist with the planning and implementation of strategies and goals into daily practice sessions. Other duties assigned by the head coach.
This position has a significant responsibility to ensure the academic success of student-athletes, engaging in public relations activities within the community, and administrative functions as assigned by the head coach. The successful candidate will assist the Head Basketball Coach with recruiting potential student-athletes, coaching, training, and practice/game strategy preparation for members of the basketball team, with an emphasis on post player development. Specific coaching duties will include preparing guard workouts and teaching advanced skillset at the Division I level. More specifically, will directly work with the head coach on what skills and development are necessary to compete at the Division I level. Prepare, plan, conduct and evaluate practice sessions, as directed by the head coach. Teach individuals and groups of players specific tasks and skills before, during and after practice, in-season and off-season. Teach player-to-player sport specific skills. Teach progressions and drills during daily practice.
Responsibilities
- Assist in training and practice sessions, ensuring that all appropriate safety guidelines and standards are maintained. Perform specific coaching responsibilities during athletic events. Attend coaches’ preparatory meetings and implement strategies resulting from these meetings.
- Assigned responsibilities within the daily operations and overall administration of the sports program.
- Develop a comprehensive and functional knowledge of the sport and maintain thorough and continuing familiarity with all applicable Institution and NCAA regulations.
- Scout and recruit quality student-athletes under the guidance and the direction of the head coach and coordinate with the head coach and with appropriate departmental personnel. Be responsible to identify, cultivate, and assess for a specific geographical area or position group.
- Assist and serve as an academic enhancement staff member responsible for all facets of the sport specific academic program, including monitoring of individual student athletes academic progress as express by the faculty. Demonstrate an active interest in the academic progress of student athletes.
- Represents the specific sport program to various institutional programs and externally to the media, students, parents, fans, faculty, and the general public.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the head coach
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Experience
Two to three years of job-related experience
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Must possess extensive knowledge of the sport as well as its skills and strategies. Strong organization and communication skills are necessary to effectively complete job tasks. Successful candidate must have an appreciation and understanding of the academic/athletic balance required of student-athletes at a highly selective and competitive academic institution.
