An opportunity exists to work in the Virginia Office of the Attorney General, Real Estate and Land Use Section of the Government Operations & Transactions Division. The attorney in this position will provide the scope of real estate transaction and advice services to Virginia’s agencies and authorities, including the Department of Conservation and Recreation, the Department of Forestry, the Department of Historic Resources, the Department of Wildlife Resources, the Fort Monroe Authority, the Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority and the Virginia Outdoors Foundation. Duties of this position include (i) drafting and negotiating documents with respect to the acquisition, sale and leasing of real estate interests, including conservation easements; (ii) interpreting and advising on enforcement of existing conservation easements; (iii) acting as lead counsel to agencies; (iv) reviewing and interpreting legislation; and (v) drafting official opinions for the Attorney General.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of Two (2) to Five (5) or more years of relevant experience, including complex transactional and contracting experience with respect to the scope of real estate interests. Excellent interpersonal skills are required, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills, technical drafting skills and the ability to analyze and manage litigation and transactions. All candidates must be admitted to the Virginia State Bar. Starting salary and position level to be commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications.
