Job description
This is an essential position within the office of the Commissioner of the Revenue. This position must maintain the City’s assessment records, various exemption, incentive and deduction programs, coordinate with other tax matters, work directly with citizens and ensure record accuracy for the outside reassessment contractor.
- Assess land, new improvements, new construction, damaged or destroyed property and any real estate not previously assessed which is to be included in the land book. Assess real estate when lots are subdivided, consolidated or rezoned.
- Administer special taxation, exemption and incentive programs
- During biennial reassessment, work with outside contractor and Real Estate Administrator in Finance as appropriate.
- Ensure accuracy of real estate tax records and tax maps, including coordination with GIS.
- Determine legal ownership of real estate and processes ownership transfers in a timely manner.
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s Degree in Public/Business Administration, Economics, or a related field, supplemented by courses in the appraisal of real property. Professional IAAO coursework or certification preferred. Extensive knowledge of CAMA, GIS and tax-related software required. Minimum five years of experience in direct real property appraisal in a responsible capacity, preferably within the public sector.
