Job Summary

The Department of Global Studies and Modern Languages at Drexel University invites applications for a non-tenure-track, full time teaching position in Arabic language (36 credits). The successful applicant will begin in January 2023. The appointment will be for one year, renewable.

Essential Functions

• Teaching duties include all levels of Arabic undergraduate courses. Courses in other areas may be assigned depending on the person’s expertise (e.g., Middle East and North Africa Studies, Global Studies, or other languages)
• The workload is 36 credits of courses over three quarters, and the position includes a full benefits package

Required Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Arabic language/cultural/history/literature/linguistic studies or related field
• Native or near-native competency in the language required
• Strong written and oral communications skills required
• The ability to work with others within the Arabic language program and Middle East and North Africa minor, as well as the larger department on curriculum, scheduling, study abroad, and related areas is indispensable
• Candidates with expertise in any of the following areas are especially encouraged to apply: foreign language pedagogy, Arabic cultural studies, including history, film, literature, linguistics or other relevant social sciences
• Candidate must be an enthusiastic educator

Preferred Qualifications

• A Ph.D. is strongly preferred
• Prior teaching experience is highly desirable, and command of instructional technology is a plus
• Expertise in cutting-edge pedagogy, assessment, and/or community-based teaching (community relations, student-faculty collaborations) is highly desirable
