Job SummaryUnder general direction the person in this temporary part-time position will be responsible for overseeing the aquatics programs. The Lifeguard I is responsible for ensuring the safety of aquatic facility patrons, by preventing and responding to emergencies. Perform any other assigned duties when not actively serving in the role of a lifeguard. Essential Job Functions
Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies.
Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations.
Operate computerized facility membership and management equipment and software
Inspect the facility on a daily schedule and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the supervisor.
Complete all records and reports.
Monitor chemical and filtration equipment, as well as the aquatics facility environment.
Attend mandatory aquatic staff meetings and in-service training.
Maintain a positive rapport and image with the patrons.
Perform other duties as directed or assigned by supervisors.
Maintains current professional certifications as required.
Makes decisions regarding refusal of patrons with health problems, intoxication and "controlled Substances", and bathing attire according to the Aquatic Facility Policy.
Report any difficulties, complaints, accidents, and damages to the Head Lifeguard, or Aquatics Coordinator.
Informs the Aquatics Coordinator when equipment needs repair or maintenance.
Maintains the cleanliness of the aquatics facility during operational hours.
ensures proper bather loads.
Checks all gates and doors at the daily closing of the center.
Enforces the aquatic center rules as listed in the staff manual.
Inspect the pool and equipment on a daily basis.
Check that all safety equipment is in correct place, and in good working order on a daily basis.
Conduct swimming lessons as prescribed by American Red Cross standards.
Swim regularly as specified by the Director - 1000 yards/day minimum. Qualifications
Possess a valid Driver's License.
Willing to work overtime, weekends, and other non-standard hours when necessary.
Required Current Certifications Include: Lifeguard, CPR (Adult, Infant, & Child), and First Aid
Water Safety Instructor or the ability to obtain within one year.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Thorough knowledge and application of life guarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies, and procedures.
Decision-making skills.
Comprehension of all basic mechanical concepts involved in the functioning of a municipal aquatic center.
Familiarity with all systems, equipment and peripherals that are required to contain, circulate, filter, heat and treat swimming pool water.
Competence in all areas of water chemistry as it pertains to pools. Their sanitation, water clarity maintenance, physical preservation of the facility, and assurance of bather comfort to include automation Technology.
Proficiency in all techniques and systems for the assurance of patron and employee safety, including mechanical equipment handling, chemical Handling, life-guarding principles and emergency actions required for the health and well being of swimmers and other patrons of the pool. Education and Work Experience
One-year experience as a lifeguard is preferred.
High School diploma or its equivalent. Physical Demands and Work Environment
Work requires frequent physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities, recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as chemical containers. The work may require specific physical characteristics and abilities such as above average swimming ability, agility, dexterity and strength.
Work involves moderate risks or discomforts, which require special safety precautions. e.g., working around moving parts, machines, contagious diseases or irritant chemicals, etc. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or equipment and work outside in extreme conditions. Disclaimer
