Job Summary
Shift options include:
- 3rd shift, 11:00 pm – 7:00 am, Tuesday - Saturday
- 2nd shift, 4:00 pm – 12:00 midnight, Tuesday - Saturday or Sunday - Thursday
- 1st shift, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, Tuesday - Saturday or Sunday - Thursday
The Analytical Chemist applies scientific expertise, analytical skills, and problem solving capabilities in support of the manufacturing team in the Home & Garden Vinita Park Plant. Responsible for performing routine analysis on production and audit samples in a high-volume laboratory. Provide results and support in a timely manner to avoid delays of plant operations.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform routine analysis on production, audit samples, complaints, and R&D.
- Perform routine maintenance on analytical lab equipment. As experience increases, be able to troubleshoot and perform repairs to equipment as needed.
- Perform routine equipment performance verification tests.
- Assist Quality Control (QC) and Production Support with equipment and methods.
- Understand formulation quality requirements.
- Provide the Chemical Batching team with analytical information support, and provide Chemical Batchers with adjustment instructions for failed batches, and understand formulation quality requirements.
- Develop and/or modify routine analytical methods to work with changing formulations.
- Perform method suitability and evaluation tests, and method.
- Perform routine GLP (Good Laboratory Practices) analyses
- Accurately record data and maintain lab files.
- Work independently.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry
- HPLC and GC experience a plus.
- Two or more years of analytical chemistry / analysis experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of laboratory operations, equipment, and safety requirements
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Excellent Microsoft Office experience particularly with Excel.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to multi-task and work independently with little supervision.
- Experience using Gas Chromatography-Liquid Chromatography (GC/LC) tools preferred.
- Knowledge and ability to apply GLP
- Must be detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to critically think, troubleshoot, and think creatively
- Strong organizational and time management skills
