Amazon Robotics is seeking talented and motivated co-ops to conduct research, develop, and test software and hardware for next-generation robotic manipulation solutions used in Amazon.com fulfillment operations. The Advanced Robotics Organization develops robotic manipulation technologies including foundational research on planning, perception, and end-of-arm tools. Ideal candidates will be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program related to software engineering or robotics. This position will report to the Amazon Robotics functional manager most closely aligned with the candidate’s skillset and project work. Each co-op will have an assigned technical mentor throughout the co-op, as well as 1-1 guidance from their manager, and will work closely with other engineers. Key job responsibilities • Identifying creative solutions for challenging research problems in robotics and computer vision • Developing software solutions to test hypotheses and demonstrate new functionality • Prototyping concepts to collect data and measure performance • Creating milestones and deliverables and tracking status with team • Developing design documentation and leading reviews with other interns and engineers • Writing code and unit tests and integrating code with other software and hardware components • Utilizing Amazon Robotics and Amazon engineering tools, processes and technologies • Delivering a final presentation to managers and engineers on the successes and challenges of their internship and the business value they have contributed
- Currently enrolled in a Master’s of Science or PhD program in Computer Science (CS), Computer Engineering (CE), Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Robotics, Applied Mathematics or other algorithmic-centric discipline
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills
- Experience with creative problem solving and getting things done
- Relevant industry or academic research experience
- Experience with robotic kinematics, dynamics, path planning, motion planning and control
- Experience with C++, Python, or Matlab, ROS, OpenCV, or PCL
- A working knowledge of analysis of algorithms and computational complexity
- Solid understanding of standard data structures, algorithms, and software development
