Position Overview
Group Leader will be in charge of a group of children and will be responsible for the overall care and safety of the children. They are responsible for conducting age-appropriate activities alongside the group’s Instructors.
Group Leaders will report directly to the Program Director
This position will be a part of our Youth and Family Services offered at Sunnyside Community Services, which includes a pre-kindergarten program, after-school programs for elementary and middle school students, high school job readiness, career readiness, and enrichment programming and Adult and Immigrant Services
Position Responsibilities
o Supervise a group of K-5thgrade children along with the Instructor and provide for the safety and well-being of participants.
o Assist with age-appropriate lesson plansrelevant to program theme.
o Assist with presentations and visuals for participants.
o Assist Instructor with lesson plans and presentations.
o Assist with Homework Help and track completion of participant assignments.
o Assist with lesson/activity for the day; assist and engage participants and lead by example
o Tailor the curriculum for each level of instruction to match student needs.
o Help prepare material and examples in advance for student understanding during activities.
o Assist with planning and preparation of special event and projects.
o Meet regularly with supervisor and other staff members to share best practices and address challenges.
o Attend essential workshops and mandated training.
o Maintain the cleanliness of program space and ensure program supplies are well organized and in good condition.
o Follow through COVID protocols, including the disinfection of areas and materials used and student health checks/hand washing.
Requirements:
o Must be 18 years old or older
o High School Diploma, some college of relevant degree preferred
o Teaching experience with a minimum of two years’ experience in an afterschool environment.
o Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
o Must be available and willing to work in a hybrid model
o This position begins as soon as possible. Afterschool staff are expected to be committed to the position until the end of the school year in June.
o Proof of COVID vaccination is a requirement.
