Location: Central Office, 801 W Prospector Place, Bldg #1, Lincoln, NE

This position will provide administrative support to the Legal Division with duties including but not limited to: Tort Claims (logging, assigning, tracking, reviewing facility recommendations, drafting agency recommendations, appeals of the Risk Manager's decision, State Claims Board preparation, tracking of Risk Manager/ State Claims Board decisions, maintenance of electronic and paper files); Involuntary Medication Order Appeals; electronic storage projects; assist with employee grievances; process purchase requests for the Legal Division; assist with Public Records Requests as needed; process mail; assist with gathering documentation/correspondence between the Legal Division and the Attorney General's Office, general reporting, other state agencies and other counsels as necessary; assist with scheduling, training and travel. Act in the absence of the Programs Officer II and Public Records Manager.
REQUIREMENTS: Associate degree in public or business administration, accounting, or any discipline related to the work assigned. One year of experience in administrative, business management or technical support work including collecting and interpreting statistical, financial, program, or administrative data; or interpreting laws, rules, regulations, and processes. Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
PREFERRED: Experience working in the corrections field or a criminal justice setting. At least two years demonstrated experience in office administration, analyzing data, as well as planning and organizing information. Experience in records retention management. Experience using Microsoft Office.
OTHER: Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program. Must maintain a valid driver's license.
Knowledge of: office management and record keeping methods and practices; administrative report preparation practices; federal and State laws and regulations governing work assigned.
Ability to: interact with immediate supervisor and senior managers, employees, and the public to gain their cooperation and to establish work relationships; formulate and recommend modifications to operational directives to attain agency goals; coordinate the activities necessary to arrange various conferences, hearings, and meetings; apply management practices, techniques, and methodologies to assigned activities; collect, assemble, and analyze facts and draw conclusions to recommend solutions to problems; identify and interpret program-administrative requirements, policies, and regulations to provide guidance and advice; organize and present facts and opinions to managers and groups; learn the structure, functions, goals, and policies of the employing agency.
