Location: Valhalla, NY Category: Adjunct Positions - Non-Teaching Faculty Posted On: Thu Oct 13 2022 Job Description:Under the leadership of the Assistant Dean of Learning Initiatives and Student Success, the Adjunct Academic Counselor for Academic Achievement coordinates a comprehensive college-wide academic prevention and intervention program and manages an advising caseload of this population of students at SUNY WCC. The Adjunct Academic Counselor provides programming and support for students who are not in good academic standing and tracks the outcomes of these interventions. The Adjunct Academic Counselor will work closely with colleagues in Academic Counseling, EOP, TRIO, Viking ROADS, the Yonkers campus and the extension sites as well the Academic Support Center, Department of Mental Health Counseling, Financial Aid, Disability Services, Student Support Services, the School Deans, and the academic departments. The Adjunct Counselor will also participate in assessment activities.
Job Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: An Adjunct Counselor must have one of the following:
A Master's and Bachelor's degree in Guidance Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, or a closely related field and one year of professional experience.
A Bachelor's degree in Guidance Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, or a closely related field and three (3) years' experience.
A Bachelor's degree in a non-specific field and 2 years of experience, along with a Master's degree in Guidance Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, or a closely related field.
The successful candidate will have experience with delivering comprehensive case management advising and a thorough understanding of exemplary approaches to assist students who are not in good academic standing. The successful candidate must possess a high attention to detail; excellent written and oral communications skills; and an ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while remaining organized. They must also have a proactive nature; exceptional judgement; and a collegial and team-oriented temperament. Proficiency in software systems including Microsoft Office applications is required. The ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information; an ability to be flexible and adaptive to changing needs and priorities; a strong student-centered orientation; and an ability to work with a team of diverse faculty, staff and students are essential.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience advising and supporting community college students.

WORK SCHEDULE: 28 hours per week, work schedule to be determined.
POSITION EFFECTIVE: The position will remain open until filled.
HOURLY RATE OF PAY: $45.32 per hour. No benefits. This position is fully grant funded.
