Experience in Long Term Care setting preferred. This is a part time position for evenings and some weekends shifts.

Summary:
The purpose of the Activity Aide is to assist the Activities Director with the planning, coordinating, training, administering, and interpreting of the activities and social programs for the facility.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

• Integrate activities with other services and care provided for the residents
• Assist Activities Director with those activities that will provide entertainment, communication, exercise, relaxation, and expression of creative talents.
• Assist with programs designed to fulfill basic psychological and spiritual needs of the residents as ordered by the attending physicians
• Assist with the volunteer services program
• Encourage hobbies and craft activities among residents in groups or individually, in workrooms, recreational areas, or resident rooms
• Encourage, but do not force, residents to participate in any program or activity (religious or recreational)
• Ascertain from the physician’s orders any limitations that the resident may have in participating in activities
• Encourage communication among residents
• Assist in planning parties, games, and encourage residents to assist in planning (i.e., making decorations for holidays and special occasions, wrapping gifts, planning parties, etc.) (Be familiar with dietary restrictions)
• Provide in room activities to residents unable to leave their room
• Assist residents in making telephone calls to friends and families when needed
• Assist in care plans as requested by the Activities Director
• Distribute mail to residents and read it to those who otherwise cannot read
• Maintain supplies, equipment, and activity space
• Assure that activity programs address and contain empowerment, maintenance, and supportive activities
• Assist in outings, transportation, and shopping for residents
• Assist residents with family members, visitors, and volunteers
• Assist residents to and from activities
• Ensure that the facility is following state and federal regulations pertaining to activities

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Must be able to read, write and follow instructions
