Job description
Experience:
- Two years of basic accounting experience.
- Accounts Payable, Payroll, and/or Billing experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with human services and nonprofit organizations is desirable.
Other Requirements:
- A criminal and Motor Vehicle record which meets company standards.
- A valid Colorado Driver's license.
- Verified legal status to work in the United States.
- Professional demeanor, excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational and time-management skills, and ability to safeguard confidential information.
- A working knowledge of Microsoft Office, with emphasis in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
This position requires frequent walking, sitting and occasional standing and driving; occasional balancing, stooping, bending; frequent handling objects, and reaching with hands and arms; and constant finger movements. The position requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 25 lbs. The position also requires ordinary talking and hearing capability; full vision capabilities; and the ability to read/comprehend, write, communicate orally, and reason and analyze on a constant basis, and to perform calculations frequently. Work is performed using a computer and standard office machinery daily, and occasional use of a vehicle.
There are inherent risks in supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. May be subject to name calling or other verbal insults in addition to physical aggression including, but not limited to, hitting, kicking, spitting, slapping, punching, throwing objects, etc. MVDS provides general and specific training to best prepare staff to prevent, and/or manage these occurrences.
The Accounting Assistant is responsible for supporting the finance department through the performance of duties related to the fiscal functions of the organization. Attention to detail and strong computer skills are essential for a successful candidate.
Essential Functions
Accounting/Finance
- Perform the processing and recording of accounts payable transactions and ensure that all invoices and staff reimbursements are paid accurately and in accordance with Finance policies and procedures.
- Manage the processing of cash receipts, recording of revenue and receivables.
- Review expense coding to ensure compliance with grants, contracts and other funding streams/cost centers.
- Review and process Wells Fargo expense reports and receipts submitted by cardholders on monthly basis.
- Manage year-end tax reporting (1099) process.
- Prepare ad hoc reports as requested by CFO.
- Other accounting duties as assigned by the CFO as necessary to ensure that financial systems function at Mountain Valley.
- Manage the processing of cash receipts.
Maintaining Payroll
- Process bi-weekly payrolls
- Communicate with supervisors/managers to obtain approved timecards in compliance with MVDS policies
- Communicate with HR any EE profile entries required and additional payroll transaction to process (ie. Bonuses, PTO payouts)
- Generate and upload Retirement contributions to UAL
- Attend webinars and maintain Paycom upgrades as they pertain to running Payroll.
- Process manual checks when requested by HR.
- Training and Other Required Duties
Standards of Behavior/Conduct
- Respond to all requests for information or communication in a timely manner.
- Follow all policies within the MVDS Employee Handbook.
- Report all on-the-job injuries to immediate supervisor and Director of Human Resources within 24 hours of the occurrence and provide a detailed account of the events leading to the injury.
- Respond as a Mandatory Reporter. Report all incidents of suspected client rights violations, mistreatment, abuse, neglect or exploitation immediately according to Colorado state law and MVDS Policies.
- Report for work on-time and as scheduled.
- Enter daily, accurate timekeeping records in timekeeping database.
- Attend all regular staff meetings and other meetings as requested by supervisory or administrative staff members.
- Get all time-off requests pre-approved.
- Do not take unpaid time off without prior approval.
- Be responsible for own transportation to work.
