Job description
The Cabot Theater in Beverly, MA is looking for an energetic, proactive accounting professional to join our growing performing arts organization. Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration, the Accountant is responsible for accounting, analysis and managing all aspects of financial reporting, payroll, and accounts payable and receivable. This is a full-time, 40 hour position that can be either a fully remote or hybrid working arrangement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage accounts payable and receivable with support from the Office Manager
- Manage all aspects of payroll (with MassPay)
- Respond to requests for payroll data (e.g. Unemployment, Worker’s Comp, etc.)
- Work with Director Finance and Administration to create monthly financial statements and related reports per Board needs by the Friday before the 3rd Tuesday of the following month.
- Work closely with Director of Finance and Administration to evaluate accounting procedures and controls and establish policy and procedure improvements
- Remit sales tax, meals tax, and performer withholding tax and prepare required reports. Monitor tax online accounts for correspondence and actions needed.
- Generate and file forms 1099 and 1096, including resolving any filing issues
- Account for fixed assets and depreciation
- Reconcile bank accounts and cash on hand accounts
- Reconcile ticketing, POS, and donor software accounts
- Properly record and reconcile prepaid expenses, accruals, and deferred revenues
- Record and properly categorize donations
- Provide information as needed for the annual audit including required schedules, transaction records, etc.
- Maintain a coherent system of accounts, with a supporting filing system
- Monitor cash levels and outstanding checks
- Resolve reporting and accounting software issues as needed
- Work with auditing firm as needed to properly record complex transactions
- Manage vendor relations through phone, email and written communications.
- Work closely with the Office Manager to manage the flow of payables and receivables to ensure proper approval, recording and prompt payments and collections.
- Maintain financial files in accordance with regulatory and company requirements both in paper form and electronically.
- Attend and participate in organization-wide and other meetings as requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: (Experience, Skills, Education):
- B.A. or B.S. degree in accounting or equivalent experience
- Experience with Quickbooks and accrual accounting is required
- Experience with non-profit bookkeeping for a venue or retail is preferred
- General knowledge of payroll and employee benefit regulations and guidelines
- Excellent administrative and organizational skills
- Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office suite, email, Google apps, etc.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfort with a fast-paced environment
- Interest in and experience with film and live music events is a plus
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
