SUMMARY OF POSITION :

The 4-week Accelerated Nursing Externship is a hands-on clinical skill building program for nursing students (any year) to take place over winter break in which Externs will work a total of 48 hours over a 4-week period in a PRN position (more hours available if desired). The program will orient nursing students to an assigned unit in which the nurse extern performs basic bedside care and selected nursing procedures.

Those with no clinical experience will perform Nursing Assistant responsibilities such as patient hygiene, EKGs, bladder scanning, and vital signs. Externs who have completed one semester of clinical will also be able to perform dressing changes, NG insertion, IV insertion, foley catheter insertion, blood draws, and central line dressing change. They will not be able to give medication.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S) :

Nursing student in any year of an accredited nursing program.
