Monday - Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm
Position Description
Our STEM Instructors lead grade-level instructional programs in Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics. Our academic program is rooted in hands-on, project-based learning which helps students learn advanced academic skills through immersive, real-world projects. With support, the STEM instructor designs and develops five 6-week project-based learning units, including lesson planning and learning assessment. Examples of past projects include virtual reality models, skateboards and half-pipe skate ramps, and Tiny House design and construction.
Each STEM Instructor is responsible for supporting a positive educational atmosphere where students learn to develop their full potential for academic, social, and emotional growth. An integral part of our learning community is our commitment to the positive personal growth of every student. Ideal candidates help every student work through challenge with care, concern, and support.
Primary Responsibilities
- Leading instruction that promotes active engagement and meaningful learning.
- Designing curriculum that helps students achieve high school readiness in STEM
- Identifying and selecting instructional resources that support diverse learners.
- Managing or supporting Personal Learning Plans for individual students
- Improving one’s own mastery of learning content and skills connected to
curriculum and instruction
- Theorizing, constructing, and executing real-world, STEM-focused projects
appropriate for diverse learners
- Supporting students’ presentations in open-school showcases following the
completion of each unit
- Supporting advisory programming that enhances students' personal growth and
development
- Supporting a positive and productive learning environment to challenge and
engage students.
- Collaborating and communicating effectively with students, parents, and other
professionals.
- Modeling professional and ethical standards at all times.
Preferred Qualifications
- An advanced degree in Mathematics or Science education or relevant experience and expertise.
- A minimum of 2 years of demonstrated success as a full-time middle school STEM
instructor.
- Evidence of demonstrated excellence in teaching driven by student needs and
informed by learning assessments.
- Impressive organizational and planning skills
- Portfolio of real-world STEM projects designed and executed with students
- Interest or experience with 3D printing, woodworking, or other DIY or maker skills
